Born on the historic Madrone Vineyards, originally planted in 1863, Valley of the Moon Winery has been at the foundation of Sonoma Valley’s winemaking heritage for over 150 years. As one of the first wineries in Sonoma Valley, Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate boasts some of the region’s oldest vinifera clones, particularly Zinfandel. Together with sister winemaker Lake Sonoma Winery, we work only within the most celebrated of these sub-appellations to offer a brilliant portfolio of fine wines designed to showcase the region’s unique characteristics and the varietal for which it has come to be known.

Angelini Wine is excited to be working with the Valley of the Moon line of Sonoma County wines.  We have hand selected a few of our favorites to start the portfolio, including the Valley of the Moon “Bright Side of the Moon” Pinot Blanc/Viognier, Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast and the Valley of the Moon Zinfandel.   Each of these Sonoma County wines offer classic, all American wine profiles.

The Valley of the Moon Bright Side of the Moon Pinot Blanc/Viogner is a well-balanced mix of 85% Pinot Blanc and 15% Viognier grapes.  This wine has aromas of honey and peaches that fill the glass with just a hint of spicy fresh ginger.  Juicy peaches fill the mouth and reveal some hidden ripe pineapple as the wine travels across the tongue.  This fantastic white wine blend is cool fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve all of the fresh fruit and aromas the grapes and yeast have to give.  This wine pairs well with hard, salty cheese and is perfect for enjoying on your favorite summer patio or by the beach!

The Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast offers intense aromas of candied red apples, cherries and hints of sweet spices. The grapes were harvested from Sonoma County’s world renowned Sonoma Coast. The Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir presents rich crimson in color. With a silky mouthfeel and acidity to balance the concentrated fruit flavors, fresh Montmorency cherries, plums and blood orange dance with delicate savory notes of redwood forests, cola and Black Forest cake. This Pinot Noir pairs well with dishes featuring duck (think confit or seared/grilled), pork and even fresh strawberries with cream.

The Valley of the Moon Sonoma County Zinfandel is the heartiest of their selections.  92% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah and 2% Barbera combine to create the Sonoma County Blend, which is grown on the Madrone Estate in Sonoma Valley where the days are warm but regulated by foggy mornings. Influenced by both the warmer daytime temps followed by marine cooled evening temps, the fruit ripens and maintains a high level of freshness.

This beautiful wine has a spicy, dark cherry entry, leading to a pleasantly structured mid-palate filled with well-defined tannins and oak.  Thoughtful wine pairings include roasted duck, and chocolate desserts.
